We Had One, Why Do We Have Many? John Kennedy. Join John as he takes us on a historical journey to explore the intriguing question: ?We had a Linux operating system in the beginning (just like Microsoft and Apple), so why do we have so many now while the others still have just one?? We?ll delve into the origins of Linux and discover why it began to diversify. John will also trace the evolution of a modern distro, examine some of its ?descendants,? and explain why these variations are necessary. This session will be engaging for everyone, not just Linux enthusiasts. No prior knowledge of Linux is required, but you might leave with a deeper understanding.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an international initiative that educates everyone about online safety and empowers individuals and businesses to protect their data from cybercrime. Even amidst large-scale data breaches and cyberattacks, Cybersecurity Awareness Month reminds everyone that there are simple, effective ways to keep yourself safe online, protect your personal data, and ultimately help secure our world. APCUG is proud to be a Champion and support this online safety and education initiative this October. The theme of Cybersecurity Awareness Month is Secure Our World! This initiative reminds us that there are simple actions we can take every day to protect ourselves, our families, and our businesses from online threats.
A Whole Lotta BS (Behavioral Science) about Cybersecurity, Lisa Plaggemier. Let?s be honest: most of us find cybersecurity frustrating. Thinking up long complex passwords, trying to find our phones when we need a code to log in to an account? it?s a pain! And if we believe the scary cybersecurity headlines about cyber-attacks and data breaches, none seem to be working. How do we make sense of it all?
If you find it confusing, you?re not alone. New research from the National Cybersecurity Alliance reveals insights into the public?s security attitudes and beliefs. With your audience participation, we?ll compare what you think to our research participants and cut through the confusion to give you straightforward, practical advice and tips on keeping yourself, your family, and your organization safe and secure. The talk begins with a short description of the behavioral science model: Capability + Opportunity = Behavior.
We are looking forward to seeing you this Wednesday. Do you have a presentation you have given to your group? Please volunteer to give it at one of the WWs. Have you seen a really good presentation at one of your local meetings? Let us know. Thanks, Judy & John (jtaylour@apcug.org -- jkennedy@apcug.org)
