Thunderbird email problems

Hi.  My wife and I have been using Thunderbird for a long time.  Recently she showed me that all her main sections (the ones created by Gmail) are just fine, but the Local Folders below the rest of her correspondence are now MISSING.  In there are years of emails between relatives and friends around the world, photos sent and received, etc.  She's really depressed about this, and so am I, especially when I try to read their "Community" repairing info online. 

I do have a backup of a few months ago.  It strikes me that I could maybe just plug that in and let GMAIL fix the communication folders, but the local folders since then would be empty.

Does anyone know a pro who understands and can fix Thunderbird?  I've been to their help section, but it's poorly organized and doesn't seem to have a standard way to fix this problem, assuming they've admitted that it's there.  I'm still hoping that the local folders are intact somewhere in there...

Also, should I consider moving to another email program, and which one(s)?

Hi Dave,
I don't have any special insights as to how to fix Thunderbird.
I use the freeware program, Bluemail as an alternate to my default e-mail client, Outlook on Office 365.
Bluemail is cross-platform and easy to set up.

I would call any of the local computer shops/technicians and see if you can locate someone who is familiar with Thunderbird e-mail. Do not let a tech learn Thunderbird at your expense $$$.

Windows Mail is the default email program in Windows 10. It is already installed so might want to give it a try.

The next time we meet via Zoom I can discuss owning your own domain, e-mail, Outlook which comes with Microsoft 365 and all costs associated with this type of service. A few SLO Bytes users use this type of e-mail.

We use Microsoft's Outlook, which comes with 365 these days. We each have a our own email in it.  It has been very reliable for many years, but is now giving us a few problems. I am sure all I would have to do to fix them would be to finally update my Microsoft Office from 2003 to 365.  Somehow I just don't seem to get around to it! When I reached 89 years old, that seems to happen about a lot of things! Like the fact that even though I knew that my subscription to Acorn on Roku was about to expire, I just didn't get around to renewing it.  Of course, they assumed I wanted to continue and I automatically paid for another year!  Fortunately, we love Acorn and I "just didn't get around to it".
