Turn off Laptop Touchpad
« on: January 09, 2023, 02:06:45 PM »
Hello All,
My laptop is an HP Pavilion Laptop.  I rarely use the touchpad, preferring to connect a wireless mouse instead.
Frequently, when I am typing, my thumbs inadvertently brush the touchpad, moving the cursor in the process so that I am no longer typing where I intended.
A simple work around is to disable the touchpad.  Here is how I do so in Windows 11
In the Search window next to the Start button, type Touchpad
That brings up the Bluetooth and Devices >Touchpad window
The first slider turns the touchpad off/on
Next to that slider is a down facing arrow
Click it and a dropdown menu opens with a checkbox that reads Leave Touchpad on when a mouse is connected
If the box is checked, uncheck it
Now, as advertised, the Touchpad will be disabled as long as you have a mouse connected.
Disconnect the mouse and the Touchpad is re-enabled.

Note to Laptop Designers:  Why not move the Touchpad to a location where your thumbs never rest.  There is plenty of space to the right and to the left of the current position.
