Hello All,
I recently downloaded a portable app and wanted to be able to launch it from the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update Start Menu
Unlike installed programs, portable applications don't automatically show up on the Start menu nor can they be added by right clicking them and opting to add them to that menu.
Here's how I was able to launch a portable app from the Start menu.
1. Locate the portable app
2. Create a shortcut to it by right clicking on the file's .exe file and choosing Create shortcut
3. Navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs on your computer.
One way to do that is to simply paste %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs into the Type here to search window
That window is the one immediately to the right of the Start button in the lower left corner of the taskbar
4. Paste the shortcut created in Step 2 above into %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
5. That portable application will now appear on the Start menu.
