I recently purchased a
TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless N Mini Router. It is configurable in various modes
Standard Router
Hotspot Router
Repeater
Client
Access Point
I found the
Quick Installation Guide did a good job of explaining the differences between these modes and showing how to enable each one.

access point, bringing wireless to an area of my home that currently has erratic WiFi coverage. I'll connect it to a nearby Ethernet cable and then use the WiFi signal for local WiFi devices in that area.
