'Dock" for reading older/newer hard drives IDE and SATA
« on: July 15, 2018, 05:13:30 PM »
The web offers dozens of 'Docks' to facilitate reading IDE or SATA older hard drives using just a USB (2 or 3) connection. Does anyone have experience with one of these - enough to be able to recommend a particular device? Thanks.

  • I cut the board twice and it's still too short.

Hi Bob,
I use a Startech USB 3.0 to Dual 2.5/3.5 SATA HDD Dock with UASP.  It works very well.
Learn more at https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Docking-Station-3-5-Inch-SDOCK2U33/dp/B00KILQTS8
It doesn't accept IDE Drives.  There is an adapter at
https://www.startech.com/HDD/Adapters/SATA-to-IDE-Hard-Drive-Adapter-for-HDD-Docks~SAT2IDEADP
I haven't used it.

I found a less expensive solution at https://www.amazon.com/SISUN-Docking-Station-Reader-Black/dp/B009F7TXMK
I have no experience with this product.
