Hello All
I'm in the middle of a new install of Ubuntu 17.10.1 and couldn't get the disk partitioning program, Gparted to install, despite assurances from the Gnome desktop that it was, in fact installed.
A Google search revealed the following comment
"For people having problems running gparted on Ubuntu 17.10: note that the default graphics environment is now Wayland and not X11. It appears that some programs (like gparted) haven't made the switch yet.
Before you log in, click on the gear next to login and switch to xorg. Then gparted should come up just fine.. would be nice if they warned you about this, or perhaps printed a useful error message... I don't think it's fair to blame gparted though."
I followed these suggestions and was finally able to launch Gparted.
