8 Alternative Search Engines To Find What Google Can’t:

Make Use Of: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/pause-google-8-alternative-search-engines-to-find-what-google-cant/

Update: 3/10/2018

One of my most utilized search engines is DuckDuckGoog (not DuckDuckGo). "Goog" does a much more thorough search than "Go", and includes photos, which "Go" seems to overlook. Give DuckDuckGoog a try and I think you might prefer it to the more commonly used DuckDuckGo.  http://www.duckduckgoog.com/

General Discussion / Re: Any suggestions for a free Windows 10 photoviewer?
« on: February 20, 2018, 08:22:10 PM »
Hi Ralph,

Thanks for the suggestion about Irfanview. Yes, I have had it installed before but found in earlier times that I needed to unload extra programs to make space. Today, I have 16 and 32 Gigabytes of RAM and large drives, so Irfanview is entirely suitable. I installed it from its website and there were no problems (foistware free). It works very well for viewing with some extra features available. I decided to download both the 64 and 32 bit versions.

I still use Ulead's PhotoImpact 8 for tweaking pictures and Panorama Maker 4 for creating panoramas.

Thanks again for your good advice.

Doug

The latest "upgrade" for Windows 10 does not offer a basic photo viewer as has been the case up to this point. >>>> (As of 2-24-18, the Windows 10 photo viewer has been restored by a subsequent update.) Does anyone feel that they know of a worthy free photo viewer program to install in the new Windows 10?

With DiskPie gone, you might consider Spacesniffer, a freeware which is mildly entertaining to watch while loading and provides a worthy, detailed display of the contents of a partition.

This one can also be very useful and loads up a lot quicker: Wiz Tree  http://wiztree.en.lo4d.com/

In familiarizing myself with Windows 10, I tried the "High Contrast" setting. After perusing the various options, I reverted to the normal Windows setting that I previously had, but Mozilla Firefox remained in a high contrast setting that was substantially less appealing than the prior default setting. So, after successfully turning off high contrast in Windows several times, I became a bit consternated to find that Firefox was still in that unwanted mode.

The solution:  Firefox Tools/ Options/ General/ Language and Appearance/ Content: Fonts and Colors: > colors/ "Override the colors specified by the page with my selections above" > select "never" and you are back to normal. Just in case anyone has tried high contrast and left it and found that Firefox still appeared as such instead of its normal mode. The "never" setting had been changed to "always", and that was the cause of the problem

I use a "custom" full back up of the entire OS, not daily but whenever I decide to back it up. Unless you select "Full Backup - No Deletions of Prior", Acronis (not Windows) will automatically delete your prior custom backup each time you create a new backup file. This option comes under the heading of "Backup Scheme". A snip of the Acronis screen is attached.
