Running both Defender and Malwarebytes
« on: June 21, 2020, 01:15:33 PM »
I really like Malwarebytes Premium for my security in Windows and have used it successfully for many years.  It often finds potentially bad items that other programs do not find. Also, I like and use Windows Defender to have an option to check problems.  Normally, both can be used in the same machine.  Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, apparently a new version of Malwarebytes shut off Defender.  Not finding a way to get it back on, I went to Malwarebytes Support and filed a problem.
They found the following solution, and it worked!
Open Malwarebytes and click on the gear icon.  Go to the Security tab and scroll down until you see "Windows Security Center". Turn OFF the switch next to "Always register Malwarebytes in the Windows Security Center". Restart the computer and Defender should be back on. It was and all I needed to do then was to go to my Windows Security, Virus and Threat Protection and run a Defender Update and all works fine again.  Many thanks to Wm. Rowland at Malwarebytes Technical Support!
