General Discussion / Re: Windows Explorer Doesn't Automatically Refresh
« on: Today at 01:45:38 PM »
Ralph, I installed the free (not Pro) Windows 7 version (for XP and Vista also) of TeraCopy, on my ASUS WIN7 laptop, which is similar to the new Windows 8 copy programming. After reading your above post, I decided to run the TeraCopy to see if there was any apparent malfunction.
I created a new folder entitled "A Test Folder" so it would copy to the top of the recipient partition window. It copied over OK, but placed itself at the very end of the array of folders, even though the "A" would have placed the folder at the beginning of the folders on the recipient partition if automatic refresh was taking place.
Then, I erased the newly copied folder and this time tried to move the source folder to the recipient partition. To copy, as first shown in the above paragraph, I held down the Ctrl key, depressed the left mouse button and dragged and dropped the folder over. This time, I did not hold down the Ctrl key, and dragged and dropped the folder over to the recipient partition. The source folder remained in the source partition and the copied folder was again placed at the bottom of the recipient folder's array of folders.
So, it would seem to me that both functions were restricted to merely copying the folder from one partition to the other, which suggests quite strongly that the refresh function, which used to refresh, at least by deleting the moved folder from the source partition, is not working with TeraCopy, the WIN8 equivalent copy programming.
As far as I can determine, this is simply the way it works. The moved folder remained on the source partition even after I mouse clicked the partition to the main partition window and back again to the source partition (but the folder was repositioned at the top of the list of folders, as the "A" was intended to do). I notice that the TeraCopy window that shows the copy/move function, plus other options, does have a "move" button, which, when clicked, caused to source folder on another occasion to disappear. It could be that WIN8 functions a bit differently that WIN 7, and since I do not have WIN8, I am unable to comment as to its performance with copying. I am also unable to suggest any remedy other than fidgeting with every possible combination of copy and move techniques to determine if there is a new procedure to follow. In any case, the refresh simply doesn't work as it used to as far as my testing has revealed.
Before I installed TeraCopy, if I copied 40 music files into a music file partition containing 500 music files, the newly copied files would show up distributed alphabetically, in correct order within the 500 file, then 540 file, array of music files. It is possible that the process of copying files is handled differently that the copying of folders. It would seem that Microsoft could need to patch the copy process up a bit. DougD
