Title: Craigslist Blocks PIA VPN
Post by: rsutter on June 16, 2017, 09:25:47 AM
Hello All,

I use a Virtual Private Network, VPN, on my desktop computer.  The service, Private Internet Access, PIA; https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/, offers many different locations from which I can connect.  I chose Silicon Valley.
When I attempted to read the Craigslist San Luis Obispo want ads, https://slo.craigslist.org/, the following message returned

This IP has been automatically blocked.
If you have questions, please email: blocks-b1493833496121099@craigslist.org

After I disconnected from the VPN, I was able to access Craigslist without incident.

I then selected Hong Kong as my VPN location and got the same response from Craigslist.  Switching off PIA VPN restored my ability to access Craigslist.

This is a behavior that I haven't seen when browsing to other pages behind a VPN.

I have found the same situation on Craigslist and on other web sites. One example is checking your warranty status on Apple products.

My solution is to choose a different PIA end point or temporarily turn off PIA.
